Kudos to the Obama administration. After the Stupak-Pitts amendment that specifically prohibited federal funding of abortion in the new programs established by the big healthcare reform bill was stripped out, many predicted that tax payers would end of financing the evil of abortion.

The suspsicion was well founded. As the folks at LifeSiteNews.com report, as New Mexico geared up to implement a high risk pool, abortion was included among subsidized procedures. Pennsylvania seemed likely to do the same.

Well informed pro-life activists ensured that these policies were publicized, and in response the Department of Health and Human Services has stated that forthcoming guidelines will apply the Hyde Amendment to the federally funded high risk pool program.

It’s good to know that the administration is following through on Obama’s executive order, which was so important for getting Stupak and others to shift to support of the heathcare bill.

It’s going to take continued vigilance—hat’s off to watchdog efforts of the National Right to Life Committee. But I’m guardedly hopeful that we can prevent federal funding of abortion.
