The standard narrative is still relevant. The anecdote of immigrant religiosity does not by itself mean that--say--religiosity among non-immigrants will be thereby transformed. Is non-Antillean France going to become evangelical Protestant because of its Antillean immigrants' evangelical Christianity, or non-Muslim France Muslim because of its African immigrants' Islam, or Buddhist because of (some of) its Vietnamese immmigrants' Buddhism? “The standard narrative has it that religious observance is declining in the west.”

The standard narrative is still relevant. The anecdote of immigrant religiosity does not by itself mean that–say–religiosity among non-immigrants will be thereby transformed. Is non-Antillean France going to become evangelical Protestant because of its Antillean immigrants’ evangelical Christianity, or non-Muslim France Muslim because of its African immigrants’ Islam, or Buddhist because of (some of) its Vietnamese immmigrants’ Buddhism?
