In accepting Christ and reorienting his life, he was a follower of Paul, who not only accepted grace but saw the need to offer it to others, including those who did not yet understand their own need. He was a great contrast to those many public figures who regret they got caught, but never used it as an opportunity to repent and humble themselves before the throne of grace.

Well, he did break the law. So, I suppose losing the right to vote was the expected outcome. I am sure the presidential candidates of today do worse. But he did get caught. He really was an influential man one way or another all his life. It would be nice if he could have stayed with us longer, but he earned his place in heaven, and thats where he is.

Actually, Therese, his voting rights were restored about a decade ago; I believe it was a direct action of Gov. Jeb Bush of Florida (his legal residence of late), not an automatic thing. I'm sure he particularly cherished his ability to vote after having lost it for so long.

It just hit me that since he was a convicted felon, he could not vote any more. All that wonderful work done, all that earnest and sincere outreach among the faithful to make a better society, and he couldn't even have the satisfaction of marking a ballot.

He was a pretty darn great man.
