Why have there been so few posts on the Evangel blog as of late? Is this intentional, or have you lost some writers?

Hugo always struck me as a bait and switch vanity project though. As far as I know it doesn't resonate with kids because they really can't connect with a topic that even many adults can't-the earliest beginnings of film. It may win awards, but that's more because it's critic bait. the only other subgroup of people who appreciate the themes.

I know a lot of people were looking at the previews hoping that finally, we'd get a decent steampunk kids film, but instead we get a maudlin lecture. And a box office dud, too-it's only grossed 50 mil of its 170 mil cost.

Mission Impossible: lots of folks loved it. I thought it qualified for Fant's "sparklers" slam. Some flashy stunts (Dubai!!) but otherwise amazingly flat and lacking the glamour these things need, as well good story or charismatic characters.

<i>"How about making Christian action movies with lots of chase scenes, things getting blown up, bad guys getting blasted, a pulsating sound track, a surprising plot twist, great acting, indelible directing, and amazing box office ticket sales, all for the glory of God alone?"</i>

All good art glorifies God. The atheist artist, in her rejection of God, does not lose the capability to make good art; she just perceives it differently than a Christian would. Just because it doesn't contain an explicitly stated Christian message doesn't mean it isn't worth one's time.

I think you guys need to go see Hugo if you get the chance. I don't get to the movies that often, but I did see Hugo with my family over the holidays. Gene is correct when he says the 'aesthetic marvels of the film are manifold', 'the spiritual truths salient'. Take your kids and ask them what they see.

I think that unbelievability of stunts is just something that viewers are going to have to accept when seeing an action movie. When was the last time an action movie was believable? It isn't meant to be! It's supposed to be exciting.

I enjoyed the 2nd Sherlock Holmes especially having seen it a second time with a buddy.

MI:Ghost Protocol was excellent IMO -- the best of the four, one of the best action movies I have seen. However some of my FB friends posted negative reviews, but they zeroed in on the unbelievability of the stunts and the fact that Tom Cruise was in it. But I can overlook that kind of stuff for these type of action movies.
