After the negative experience Evangelicals have had of electing fellow nominal Evangelicals Carter and Clinton, one would think they would concentrate on the the personal morality and the public policy views of a candidate, rather than thinking that mere membership in an approved denom, ination gives any assurance of either competence or integrity. Yet Reverend Jeffress is still out of touch with reality, thinking that Romney being a Mormon should disqualify him from beinig the Republican nominee. Has he even considered that, if Evangelicals make opposition to a candidate on the basis of religious affiliation a legitimate action, socially accepted, it will unleash the widespread prejudice against Evangelicals that is held by many Americans, and defeat an Evangelical Republican candidate? Backstabbing among Republicans is only going to encourage other voters to backstab in accordance with their own biases.

I can't recall any Republican (or any conservative) saying anything at all like they were looking for a messiah. They do say they are looking for the best candidate, and some candidates they enthusiastically endorse. But messiahship is not really what they are seek.

"The conservative party should not be in quest of a political savior. The messiah came and until He returns, there will be no perfect ruler whether one looks in New Jersey, Florida, Texas, or Washington D.C. Perhaps it is better to vote for competence, knowing we will be a bit disappointed in some details, than quest for ideological purity."

wow, you just distilled what I've been trying to say.
