My review of Fr. Victor Lee Austin’s most recent book appears in today’s edition of Comment: Why We Need Authority. Given that I am in the latter stages of writing a book on the subject, I have found Austin’s defence of authority refreshing and eloquent. I strongly recommend it.

While cooperation might require coordination, why does coordination always require personal authority?

What does the author say about the need to heed scientific authority? The climate change issue might be a good case study.

Coordination does not always require personal authority but some tasks do require it for assigning tasks, deciding which course to take toward a given objective and so on. Captaining a ship for instance.
