I did not listen to the video and thus didn't realize, as Jeremy Kelly pointed out, that this occurred 20 years ago.

Who knows--maybe this guy did leave the ministry for a while.

Jared,

Perhaps Mr. Lamb did not "make his wife do the dirty work." Perhaps she wanted to be the one to share this news. Perhaps they felt it would show more of a unity for her to verbalize it.

Imagine Mr. Lamb sharing the news with his wife nodding her head and smiling. Many would think she was not fully on board. What I am saying is it seems presumptuous to state that this was somehow only his decision to make and a little bit harsh.

Maybe our Christian attitude and approach to this guy should be more gentle and loving and less condemning as I sense from many. This affair is said to have taken place 20 years ago. Not that it's an excuse but none of us know the full details of their marriage.

I for one am not perfect and have made bad decisions and committed sinful actions too. Maybe we need to pause before we cast our self-righteous stones and stone the sinner and the messiah that died for him.

To Victor

Alot of these problems come from us not being totally commited to Jesus. I went through something like this years ago. I almost stopped going to church. One day I heard a small still voice deep within that said I am the one who died for you and you are accountable to me. I knew then that no matter what others did I could not live away from Jesus because I am accountable to him only. I am still working to be commited to the Lord it truly is a daily battle but one we must win.

Truth Unites and Divides which is so true and as far as I'm concerned the bullies make sure of that by feeding their own and they've been doing this ever since they've crucified our Lord and they still have not stopped.

Whoever thinks that two world wars and sacrificing ten millions Jews will keep these bullies satisfied till God comes again in Glory is nothing but wishful thinking. All humans can do is try and minimize "IT" by praying and trying to do what we truly believe is right in our heart of heart until God gives U>S (usual sinners) a New Heart that can never be corrupted.

If there's anymore of The Evil Trinity's Bullies out there and I don't care what religion you belong to, come out and testify with a sincere heart and see if the truth will really set you free.

I'll close by suggesting that if any of you can keep these dark angels from getting a hold of your brothers and sisters go for "IT" cause even if you can keep just one human cell from getting Swaggard alive, "IT" will be one less soul that The Eternal Furnace will be bragging about.

I hear ya! Come on sinner vic, give "IT" all UP cause we're going to get Victor sooner or later with or without your help!

Go Figure! :)

God Bless Peace

I don't like this sort of thing any more than anyone else, and I think these folks should get out of the ministry as Craig Payne noted.

But as to the question of church discipline, unless these individuals submit there is nothing that any church, regardless of church structure, can do. It's not any different than Harry Emerson Fosdick preaching a sermon against Fundamentalists at First Presbyterian Church and then having the Rockefellers build him Riverside Church in New York when the Presbyterians decided that they didn't want a Baptist in their pulpit after all.

In other words, if the person does not submit you can only remove the individual. But this does not stop anyone from founding their own ministry or denomination for that matter. And, American Christianity is replete with that phenomenon regardless of what branch you belong to. There is no branch immune from this.

How many Baptists do we have out there? Presbyterians? Methodists? It's getting too numerous to keep track of. And this is especially the case when you think of pentecostal-charismatic folks like Eddie Long who is actually Full Gospel Baptist, which is a denomination formed out of the National Baptist Churches in the mid 1990s.

This seems all about money, both for the televangelist and for his wife, but then is this not what televganelism is all about? The fact that such people are successful is testament to the gullibility of the American public.

I met a real estate salesman professionally. He reminded me of Steerforth in David Copperfield. I did not like him. I thought he would make an excellent television evangelist. I refuse to watch the video. How shameless could he be.

I wonder if the love of mammon is what the motive is here?

They must be millionaires, to be able to afford $7.5 mil. But, then again who knows. He also is a WofF preacher, along with Jesse Duplantis and others, and so is not even a true child of God. Maybe that's why he is not being chastised.

FYI for Brad and anybody else that might be interested. Marcus Lamb is the founder and president of the Daystar TV network. We have it on our cable system. Daystar is TBN's main competition and has a lot of the same shows and theology and also raises funds the same way, with praise-athons.
Like Paul Crouch, he's a tele-evangelist mainly because owns the network. According to Wikipedia he's a bishop in the Church of God (Cleveland, Tenn.) but he doesn't seem to have ever pastored a church. The news story linked to in this OP states that he informed his denomination about his affair but IDK what they will or can do to discipline him.
I feel bad for his wife. Talk about having to eating crow and it shows.

Well, as far as I know, Benny Hinn has never been involved in a sex-related scandal.

And Ted Haggard is not Pentecostal. At the time of his disgrace, he was the head of the National Association of Evangelicals.

From the article: <i>"DayStar is rooted in <b>Pentecostalism</b>, the Christian tradition known for its spirit-filled worship, and its belief in modern-day miracles and everyday battles with evil influences."

Someone check my recollection, but there seems to be a connection between Pentecostalism (Word/Faith) evanglist-pastors and sexual immorality.

This Lamb fellow. Jim Baker, Ted Haggard, Bishop Long, Swilley, Benny Hinn, et al.

I'm sure there are some names that I'm missing. And such scandals are not restricted to Pentecostals and Word/Faith. But when it comes to high-profile sex scandals it sure seems like it's the Catholics (priest-pedophiles) and the Pentecostal Word-Faithers who are leading the way.</i>

How many televangelists operate under the local church? And how many would be disciplined by that church for this kind of behaviour?

I expect almost none. And I suspect that it's just so they won't have to answer to anyone for this, or any other sinful action.

Despicable.
