Last week’s annual meeting of the Evangelical Theological Society featured three plenary sessions devoted to the doctrine of justification—one from Thomas R. Schreiner, another from Frank Thielman, and a third from N. T. Wright (as well as a panel discussion featuring them all).
Of the writing of blog post round-ups there is, perhaps, no end (see, for example, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, and here)—and the round-ups may be all there is for some time, given the addresses’ reported future publication in JETS.
But in the meantime, Evangel readers may enjoy perusing the full text of Schreiner’s response to Thielman’s paper, as well as his response to Wright.

Robert, thanks for the links. I had been following the discussion and watched the Wheaton conference videos, and I’m glad to see the discussion is going well. Schreiner’s response is a very good one; it follows Vanhoozer in emphasizing the strengths of Wright’s ecclesiological focus and putting it into continuity with the magisterial Protestant theological tradition. While I ultimately agree with Schreiner with respect to the primacy of the soteriological character of justification, Wright justly highlights that soteriology and ecclesiology are necessarily united (though distinct) for the justified in Christ, and that evangelical populations historically have inordinately belittled the Pauline doctrinal and practical emphasis on the Church as a polity, one that points forward to future consummation, but a polity nonetheless rather than a Gnostically “spiritual = immaterial” body of people.
