Comment #10 makes me think of drunk driving. No drunk ever intends to have an accident and kill people. But the "oh, wow, how did that happen" sense of the way Dr. Reddy uses "unintended event" wouldn't get him very far with the cops.

Eli,

Conception is not an unintended event, it's an unintended outcome of an intended event. It's also a fairly predictable outcome in certain circumstances. To treat it otherwise is morally obtuse.

Furthermore, suppose we treated conception as the unintended event in spite of the above. If a couple has sex, pregnancy could result without having been intended. If I blindfold myself and run through a shopping mall, I might knock a child down without intending to do so. "Unintended events," when they are as predictable as these, are really the moral equivalent of intentional ones.

Now seriously, are you honestly biased enough not to understand that the "unintended event" in question is conception and not sex? That's really quite clear from what she said, so I'm not sure how it's possible to construe her as saying something different.

It was your choice of the word "life" that made it easy. If you had said "moral significance as a human being," it would have required more of an answer

"Didn’t know that was a difficult question."

C'mon Tom. I know you must have argued with pro-abortionists before.

"Did I mention it’s effective a full five mornings after?

Wow.

Can't wait for someone here at Evangel to write a blogpost on "When does Life begin?"

"The new “emergency contraception,” just approved by the FDA, is EllaOne, a “morning-after” pill that is actually an abortifacient."

Why don't they call it an abortifacient?
