This post puts me in mind of a trip I made in the mid-80s to (West) Germany with a choir from Blue Lakes Fine Arts Camp. We were in a town called Idar-Oberstein and a couple of friends and I were visiting the ruins of the "new" castle (c. 1070). As we looked at the doorway to a spiral staircase, I noticed that there were words inscribed over the entrance. When I asked the tour guide what it said he told me that, loosely translated, it said "Watch your head, stupid."
