Excellent post, Professor Koyzis.

“Therefore the testimony of Scripture is to be evaluated on this basis. What serves the cause of the oppressed is the real kernel of Scripture. Scripture functions only within this more fundamental scheme.”

It’s not just the Oppressor/Oppressed schema of Liberation Theology that serves as an interpretive lens of Scripture. There are others as well. Here are three of them: Evolution, Egalitarianism, and Libertarian Free Will Arminianism.

(1) “Therefore the testimony of Scripture is to be evaluated on the basis of scientific evolution. What serves the cause of scientific evolution is the real kernel of Scripture. Scripture functions only within this more fundamental scheme.”

(2) “Therefore the testimony of Scripture is to be evaluated on this basis of egalitarianism. What serves the cause of egalitarianism is the real kernel of Scripture. Scripture functions only within this more fundamental scheme.”

(3) “Therefore the testimony of Scripture is to be evaluated on the basis of Libertarian Free Will. What serves the cause of Libertarian Free Will is the real kernel of Scripture. Scripture functions only within this more fundamental scheme.”
