Doesn’t this conceptual rendering of the new Harry Potter Theme Park look like it was painted by Thomas Kinkade?
At first I thought it must be a strange coincidence and that it couldn’t be by the Painter of Light™ since it depicts people in the picture. But then I was looking to see if he had ever painted a castle before and was surprised to find this:

If he painted “A New Day at the Cinderella Castle” I guess its not so inconceivable that he would paint Hogwarts too.
What do you think? Is the Hogwart’s rendering a Kinkade original?

It absolutely looks like a Kinkade, in a sort of creepy way. Perhaps a spell was cast over a Kinkade and this is the result. That’s what I’m going with.

Ouch. The Cinderella painting. Ouch.

Kinkade almost never paints in dark tones. His paintings tend to be like the Cinderella Castle with a bright look. So, I doubt that Kinkade did do the Harry Potter rendering.
I was looking at jigsaw puzzles the other day. There seems to be a lot of Kinkade imitators around right now. Same style, same color palette. Yuck

Take a look at this post before you come to conclusions.

OK, I’ll say it: I’ll take Kinkade’s painting any day for most that passes for “art” in the “modern art” sections of most major museums. Seriously.
Here in St. Louis we are treated to: Bailing wire and nails. Piles of rocks. Broken glass and twine. Splatter of paint my dog could have created. Giant sheets of canvas with black paint on one half. White on the other.
Color me definitely not impressed.

And as for Kinkade not painting people into his paintings’, well, so much for that theory.

Kinkade did used to paint people back when he was still a talented artist rather than a painter of schlock. But he makes a conscience decision not to include people in his most recent stuff.
Kinkade justifies the absence of people because he doesn’t want to exclude any viewers from being able to step into the fantasy. As he once explained, “When you paint people, you limit people. Why would [a hypothetical Vietnamese family] want to look at a picture of a dozen white people sitting around a Thanksgiving table?”

Ah, so that’s why the fanciful homes he paints look so much like a typical Vietnamese family home. I get it. Brilliant!
: )

I wouldn’t blame him if he did paint it. It’s the only way anyone in their right mind would ever let him into Hogwarts. ;)

When I first saw the thread title, I honestly thought you were talking about Vermeer. Is Kinkade actually known as “The Painter of Light”?

Kinkade seems to think so: He’s trademarked that phrase so that it can only be used in reference to him.

If you all would henceforth refer to me as “The Purveyor of Knowledge,” I would appreciate it. We don’t really need to get our lawyers involved, do we?
“The Professor Formerly Known as Payne” would also work.
