Christianity Today recently added a regular feature called “Who’s Next” that highlights younger evangelicals who are pursuing interesting projects, and to introduce them and their goals to their readers. The first interview—now online—is by one of the sharpest young intellectuals in evangelicalism, our own Matthew Anderson.
He’s too humble to mention it here but at his excellent blog, Mere Orthodoxy, Matthew announced he’s signed with Bethany House to write a book on the meaning and role of the body in young evangelicalism. The working title is Body Matters: Overcoming the New Gnosticism of Young Evangelicals.
If you’re interested in the subject—and we all should be—check out his blog series on Paul’s anthropology in Romans 4.

Isn’t there a danger in a young person becoming too famous too soon? It seems like a spiritual pitfall.

I’ll be curious to hear more about Andersen and his forthcoming book. Color me skeptical about young evangelicals (I myself am a young evangelical–32 years old), but with all the talk about the Gen-X and Gen-Y influence in evangelicalism, embodied in the rather ridiculous emergent movement (of the Emerging Village strain, and not the broader emerging movement–a little more than semantics, if you’re curious), when I hear “young evangelical,” my radar goes up. I’m a cynic at heart, I know…
But I’ve been hearing very good things about you, Matthew, and I’m curious to learn more. Best of luck to you, and God bless!

Thanks, Joe.
Orthodoxdj,
You’re absolutely right. There’s a huge spiritual danger here, and I’m increasingly aware of it. If you’d like to discuss it privately, feel free to email me at matthew dot l dot anderson at gmail dot com.
Steve,
As a young evangelical myself, I understand and share your skepticism. : )
We’re way overrated. More Augustine, less me, would do us all a whole lot of good.
Best,
Matt
