Pastor McCain - just one small quibble with number 7. First know yourself. If you are the kind of guy who gets lost in tangents, please bring the manuscript with you. That does not mean read it, but perform it. I've sat through way to many sermons where the preacher took exactly this advice to just bring an outline from very good preachers and bluntly - he just wasn't that good. No manuscript is the perfect being the enemy of the good, and having the manuscript should ensure being prepared and being clear which are much higher on the list. Basically, first ask if you have the talent to go without, and be realistic in that evaluation.

Rev,

Right at the top there, you said that your son John, was aspiring to become a pastor.

I know you won't take any credit, but still, he watched you for how long? And now he wants to serve like you serve?

Good on you.
