Of the culture that is?
This post has me thinking . . . but I cannot see totally dropping out for three reasons.
First, there is some good stuff being produced that is easier to find if one is not a total drop out.
Second, as a teacher I would find it even harder to understand the cultural context of my students than I do. Understanding is at least somewhat important for communication. One does not have to be the weird teacher who tries student slang (my art teacher who said “groovy”) to do this.
Finally, and perhaps sadly, people make decisions based on pop culture (see Saturday Night Live and politics) and there is some reason to wish to anticipate the direction the wind is blowing.
You have a decision to make: double or nothing.
For this week only, a generous supporter has offered to fully match all new and increased donations to First Things up to $60,000.
In other words, your gift of $50 unlocks $100 for First Things, your gift of $100 unlocks $200, and so on, up to a total of $120,000. But if you don’t give, nothing.
So what will it be, dear reader: double, or nothing?
Make your year-end gift go twice as far for First Things by giving now.
