I can’t believe we’ve gone the whole day without any of our Lutheran contributors mentioning Reformation Day. (Um, we do have some Lutherans around here, don’t we? Note to self: Get some Lutherans.)

Fortunately, one of my fellow Baptists, Timothy George, founding dean of Beeson Divinity, has it covered with his new article celebrating Luther’s posting of the Ninety-Five Theses. Perhaps that is fitting since, as George notes, “On this Reformation Day, it is good to remember that Martin Luther belongs to the entire Church, not only to Lutherans and Protestants, just as Thomas Aquinas is a treasury of Christian wisdom for faithful believers of all denominations, not simply for Dominicans and Catholics.”

Update: It turns out the reason the Lutherans didn’t post because they can read a calendar – Reformation Day isn’t until tomorrow. Oops. What can say, I’m a Baptist.

Puke. Luther was kicked out of Rome. Quit rewriting history.

It does not take a PhD to see where this whole mess is going.

Read Aquinas more closely. Then read his biography. He repented of his own words.

Joe – Thanks for posting this and for your work on the blog so far, I’ve enjoyed reading it. Looking forward to more in the future :).

Actually, tomorrow is Reformation Day, but what’s 24 hours among friends?

    Thanks for the kind wishes.

If anyone gives a hoot, I have a couple blog posts scheduled for tomorrow’s Reformation Day observance.

    Yeah Joe,
Thanks for reducing the Reformation down to a nice hug between friends.

I fixed my blog address….Joe may not remember me, but at one time we were fellow WORLD Mag bloggers.

I cut my teeth on blogging for WORLD, and managed to thoroughly ruin the Moveable Type blog platform they kindly provided.

Fortunately, I have learned to leave the techno-driving to others when it comes to blog templates.

I thought I recognized Joe’s name! I used to blog on World’s site too. Small world, eh?

I blogged at WORLD as well, in the Cinema Veritas film blog.

    Is there a conspiracy afoot?

Hmmmm…..I was one of their “pastor bloggers” for several years. Then they phased it out. I think our posts got a tad too theological for their tastes, or too Lutheran, or too Calvinist, or too…take your pick.

Yeah, they phased me out too and restructured the whole blog section.

I guess First Things is stuck with me now…as a commenter, at any rate.

This is like a family reunion with a bunch of relatives I’ve never actually met.

Relatives you never have to meet are sometimes the best kind.

WORLD is an ok magazine, but I quit reading it a few years ago. Just never did much for me. I didn’t need a Christian version of TIME, and it just kind of bored me. The best columns in it were, and are, by Gene Edward Veith.

I used to write some articles for WORLD. I’m a journalist by trade, but more interested in philosophy and art than politics. WORLD is more of a news/politics venue, so I guess it was inevitable that I wouldn’t stick around. Gene’s column is always interesting, although too abbreviated to provide ample evidence for many of his propositions.
